Nova Scotia Watercourse Alteration Certification For Installers

  • Best Western 150 Willow Street Truro, NS, B2N 4Z6 Canada (map)

Course Description

Overview

The Department of Environment in the Province of Nova Scotia has moved to a notification and approval system for Watercourse Alteration Certification, for persons who have taken a certified training program and successfully passed a licensing examination. The Maritime College of Forest Technology’s Department of Continuing Education is the sole provider of Certified Training.

The completion of this installer training and subsequent exam will allow the participant to install culverts and single span bridges by way of notification and approval. This means no time-consuming application process, and no long wait for approval prior to starting the installation.

Objectives

  • Prepare to write the Provincial Certification Exam that will allow the installation of culverts and single span bridges under the notification and approval system.

  • Increase participant knowledge of current techniques and technology with regard to watercourse alteration.

  • Increase participant skills in regard to calculating material and equipment requirements.

  • Appreciate the need to protect water quality and water related habitats.

Candidates

This program is designed for people who directly supervise the installation of watercourse alterations. The Provincial policy is designed so that a certified installer is actually on site. Although experience in culvert and bridge installation is a definite benefit, it is not mandatory to attend the course.
