Private Forest Owners National Survey

Are You a Canadian Private Forest Owner? We Want to Hear from You.

Do you own private forest land in Canada? If so, your experience and perspective are more important than ever.

In collaboration with Canadian Forest Owners, researchers at McGill University have launched the first national survey of Canadian private forest owners in more than 20 years, and they’re inviting you to participate.

The last comprehensive study was conducted in 2003. Since then, Canada’s forests, and the people who care for them, have experienced significant change. Climate pressures, increasing wildfire risk, shifting ownership demographics, and uncertain economic conditions are all reshaping the landscape. This survey aims to capture that change and ensure your voice is part of the national conversation.

About the Survey

The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and explores:

  • Your background and experience as a forest owner

  • Your goals and motivations for managing your land

  • The values you associate with your forest

  • The challenges you’ve faced, or expect to face, in the future

There are no right or wrong answers.

Take the survey here: https://www.forestowners.ca/about/survey/

Why Your Participation Matters

By participating, you will:

  • Help build an up-to-date national picture of private forest ownership in Canada

  • Inform policies and programs that better reflect the realities of forest owners

  • Strengthen the collective voice of private forest owners in national decision- making

If you know other private forest owners, please consider sharing this survey within your network.

This study has been approved by the McGill University Research Ethics Board (REB#26-03-097) and is supported by Mitacs Canada and Canadian Forest Owners.
